Welcome to Reading by Candlelight!
By accessing or using our website (readingbycandlelight.com.au) and services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”).
Please read them carefully.
Throughout these Terms, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to Reading by Candlelight. “You” refers to the customer or website user.
1. Using Our Website
You agree to use our Site for lawful purposes only and not to interrupt or attempt to harm the operation of our website or services.
You must not:
- use our Site to commit fraud or unlawful activity
- attempt to access secure areas without permission
- modify or copy any part of the Site
- submit false information when placing an order
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who violates these terms.
2. Products & Availability
Our products—particularly our monthly subscription boxes—are created in small batches and may be available in limited quantities.
We may:
- discontinue items
- update product designs
- limit quantities
- cancel orders if products are unavailable
If an order cannot be fulfilled, we will contact you and offer a refund or alternative.
3. Pricing & Payments
All prices are listed in AUD and include GST unless stated otherwise.
Payments are processed securely through:
- Shopify Payments
- PayPal
- Other approved payment providers
By completing a purchase, you authorise us and our payment partners to charge the nominated method for the total amount shown at checkout.
Prices may change without notice.
If you are a subscription customer, see Section 4.
4. Subscription Terms (Reading by Candlelight Subscription Boxes)
By signing up for a subscription, you agree to be billed on a recurring basis through our subscription provider (Appstle).
Billing Frequency
You will be billed automatically on the schedule selected at checkout (monthly, seasonally or pre-paid cycles).
Cancellations
You may cancel any time before your next billing date.
Cancellations apply to future charges only.
Renewals
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled prior to the next billing date.
If we update the subscription price on our website, existing active subscribers will keep their current price for as long as their subscription remains active and uninterrupted.
New subscribers (or returning subscribers whose subscription has lapsed) will be charged the updated price.
Prepaid cycles will renew at the subscriber’s existing price unless they cancel or change their plan.
Failed Payments
If a payment fails, Appstle may:
- retry the charge
- email you requesting updated payment details
- pause or cancel your subscription if payment cannot be completed
Refunds for Subscriptions
Due to the curated, small-batch nature of our boxes, subscription charges are non-refundable once processed, unless required under Australian Consumer Law.
5. Shipping
Shipping times and rates are outlined on our Shipping Policy page.
Delays outside our control (postal delays, customs, extreme weather, etc.) may occur. We cannot guarantee delivery dates but will always assist where possible.
Customers are responsible for providing accurate shipping information. If an incorrect address is provided, additional shipping fees may apply.
6. Refunds & Returns
Our Refund & Returns Policy is available on its own page and forms part of these Terms.
We comply with the Australian Consumer Law.
If an item is faulty, damaged, or incorrect, we will provide a replacement or refund.
Change-of-mind returns are not accepted for subscription boxes or curated items.
7. Accuracy of Information
We do our best to keep product descriptions, pricing, and availability up to date, but errors may occur.
We reserve the right to:
- correct errors
- update information
- cancel orders affected by incorrect listings (with a full refund)
8. Intellectual Property
All content on our website, including images, designs, branding, and text, is owned by Reading by Candlelight and protected by Australian copyright law.
You may not copy, reproduce, modify, or use our content without written permission.
9. Third-Party Services
Our site integrates with third-party providers such as:
- Shopify
- Appstle Subscriptions
- Google Analytics
- Payment gateways
These providers have their own Terms and Privacy Policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party sites.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Reading by Candlelight is not liable for:
- indirect or consequential losses
- loss of revenue, profits, or data
- delays outside our reasonable control
Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update or replace these Terms occasionally.
The latest version will always be available on this page.
Using the Site after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Tasmania, Australia.
